The benefits of exercising are obvious; either if you’re trying to lose weight or gain muscle mass, staying healthy and happy are the prime goals. However, not all of us enjoy working out in a closed-gym area every single day. Therefore, instead of wasting your hard-earned dollars on expensive gym memberships, here are 5 alternatives to the gym that will get you moving at no cost.  


This aerobic exercise will work your cardiovascular and respiratory systems, meaning that you’ll get your blood pumping and your lungs working. Also, running regularly will strengthen your immune system by making it more tolerant to germs that cause minor illnesses. Finally, before heading out make sure have a good pair of shoes and lots of motivation!


Exercising at home

We all have those days when we want to workout but don’t want to leave the comfort of our homes. Yoga is an awesome exercise if you are looking to become more flexible or just to find some peace of mind. Also, if you are suffering from back, neck or joint problems, yoga has been proven to correct your posture and make you feel better. Furthermore, besides improving your bone health, blood pressure and immune system, performing yoga will increase your spiritual and emotional dimensions so you can become more relaxed and stress-free.



Swimming is considered one of the most complete workouts out there. It counts as both cardio and strength training with relative not impact on your joints. Plus, if you’ve been injured, swimming is a great recovery exercise that will get you up and running in no time. Moreover, if you are in the middle of summer and can’t handle the intense heat, go for a swim and cool off!



Besides being enjoyable, biking is one of the most painless ways to get your workout in. This exercise is great for weight loss and building muscle if accompanied with a healthy diet. Also, cycling can burn between 400 and 1000 calories per hour, depending on the intensity of the workout. Finally, safety is paramount when riding a bike, so make sure you always wear a helmet since even a small accident can cause a traumatic injury.
